John Francis Bongiovi Junior, o John Bon Jovi, é o atual vocalista e o precursor da banda. Depois de várias fitas demo enviadas sem nenhuma resposta, o grupo conseguiu, em 1983, que a gravadora do primo de John lançasse uma de suas músicas, abrindo as portas para o contrato assinado com a Polygram um ano depois. Assim começava a carreira de uma das maiores bandas de rock do mundo.

“Bon Jovi”, o primeiro disco, foi lançado em 1984, e teve uma boa aceitação. O segundo não fez tanto sucesso, porém, “Slippery When Wet”, o terceiro disco,  leva a banda ao cenário internacional com os hits “You Give Love a Bad Name”, “Livin' on a Prayer” e “Wanted Dead or Alive”. A turnê do disco termina e a banda já começa a gravar o próximo: “New Jersey”, trazendo os hits “Born to Be My Baby”, “Lay Your Hands on Me” e “Living in Sin”.

Após descansar das duas turnês exaustivas e de projetos individuais, o grupo volta aos estúdios para gravar “Keep the Faith” em 1992. O disco, que veio com composições mais críticas, fez um enorme sucesso, levando a banda ao topo das mais executadas.

Depois de lançar “These Days”, em 1995, com os singles “This Ain't a Love Song” e a faixa-título, o Bon Jovi deu uma nova parada para realização de projetos individuais. A volta acontece cinco anos depois, lançando um dos maiores hits da banda “It's My Life” no CD “Crush”.

Inspirados, também, pela tragédia de 11 de setembro de 2001, a banda grava “Bounce”, um ano depois. Com um som mais pesado, fez sucesso com os hits “Everyday” e “Misunderstood”. “Have a Nice Day” garantiu sucesso com a faixa-título e “Who Says You Can't Go Home”. “Lost Highway” tem como singles a faixa-título e “Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore”, e é o trabalho mais recentes da banda considerada, por três vezes, a melhor banda de rock do mundo.
